Personality and background:
Found wandering in the woods when she was five years old, Layna was nursed back to health by Liss Krinnal, a human woman living on the edge of the abandoned woods most believed (mistakenly) to be haunted. Layna remembered nothing of her past after she finally recovered from miscellaneous injuries and the resulting fever. Liss adopted her as one of her many children, and Layna lived with them until she was sixteen, when she felt a need to be on her own and built a simple hut not far away. She still visits often, and she adores the children. Layna is a lively, light-hearted, joyful person with a kind heart. She is an excellent huntress, seeming to have an uncanny understanding of the animals. She only hunts when she must for food, and she often rescues injured animals and nurses them back to health. Liss knows her adopted daughter is an elf, and whenever she sends Layna out of the woods to go shopping in the nearby town, she cautions her to hide her ears, since most humans do not believe elves exist anymore, and many others distrust and fear them.

Kyven Jerridan

Personality and background:
Kyven is a mischievous young man, a trickster with a definite talent for sneaking, scouting, and (only when it's necessary, he claims) stealing. He also knows a bit about woodcraft, particularly when it concerns what plants are good to eat or which have healing properties. Kyven was found abandoned as a baby, and his human parents took him in. He has been wandering and traveling ever since he began to feel restless, at the age of sixteen. His wanderings eventually took him into the haunted woods, which he did not believe were really haunted, though he did believe they held mysterious secrets. Kyven is fun-loving and boisterous, and while he is a mischief-maker, he can be depended on whenever his friends need him.

Personality and background:
Tristl is another elf adopted by human parents. Her mother was a seamstress, and she took up the trade as well, also training with the village bard in her spare time. She was always particularly good with stringed instruments. She also grew up on the banks of a river and became an excellent swimmer; on one occasion she saved a boy from drowning, when the river was particularly turbulent. Tristl is intelligent, calm, and quiet. She is a practical girl, and very reliable. When she was fifteen, she and the young man she had been courting decided to go on a journey; Tristl had been feeling restless. Her parents approved of and trusted the young man, and they gave their consent. No one knows what happened to him, or how Tristl came to be traveling by herself and making a sort of a living performing in taverns, but she has seldom mentioned her previous companion to Layna and Kyven. She met the two of them in an inn one night, and after discovering that they were also elves, she agreed to join them on their travels.
