The Tempest
These paintings were done as the final project for my costume design class in the spring of '98. We were supposed to design, paint, and choose swatches for six costumes, for characters from Shakespeare's The Tempest. You can see the swatches paperclipped to the pictures! As for the faces, we didn't have to draw faces if we didn't want to, and at the time I was quite frustrated with getting them to look right, so I opted not to worry about it.

Antonio
My professor liked this one best, and I have to admit it turned out pretty well. The colors especially suit the role, I think. |

Caliban
Caliban the fish monster! This turned out pretty well...I thought it was rather creative. Note the nifty fins and seaweed around the legs. |

Miranda
Aww, how sweet. Shipwrecked Miranda with a tropical flower in her hair, a partly unlaced bodice (but not enough to be indecent), bare feet, and a little shell pendant. |

Ariel
Ummm...some of you may notice that Ariel the air spirit looks exactly like Umi from Magic Knight Rayearth. *L* Well, our professor said we could use costume ideas from other sources, and I couldn't pass up the chance to use anime in my homework...heh. Plus it's a kewl outfit. |

Ferdinand
Enh...I don't particularly like how the young hero of the story turned out. He looks like something of a pansy. *L* Oh well, it's decent...I like the way the brocade on the collar works. |

Prospero
Prospero's supposed to be wise and majestic, with a mystical, elaborate cloak and an air of mystery, and he sorta...isn't. =P Well, it was getting late, I was pressed for time, and my inspiration was running out. |
