SD-Amy by Jennifer
Hi there! As you've probably guessed, my name is Amy, but my "alter ego" is Ariana Dreamstar. Other nicknames include Ari, Amykat, Ariana Aislinn, Squirrel Chick, Amy-chan...the list goes on. =P Anyway, I'm currently 21 years old, a big fan of myth and legend and fantasy, but also a very devoted Christian. I'm really into other cultures and countries, particularly Celtic and Japanese (yeah, I know, they're really similar =P ); in fact, I spent last fall on an exchange program at the University of Wales! It was a really cool experience, and I made some great friends and saw a lot of nifty castles and stuff. =) (Plus they had the coolest selection of medieval studies classes there!) Now I'm back at Willamette University and about to graduate with my BA degree in May (I'm majoring in English and minoring in music). I want to go to grad school in the next year or two, though I haven't decided exactly what I want to do— that'll depend on what God has in store for me!— but getting my masters in creative writing or studying mythology and legend in order to teach are appealing prospects. My career goal of choice is, of course, to be a freelance author! I've been writing pretty much ever since I learned how, and I've been reading fantasy ever since my Mom first read me The Wizard of Oz when I was five years old. (I finished the rest of the series on my own as soon as I learned how to read.) Other series have been added to my list of favorites throughout the years, including C. S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia, Lloyd Alexander's The Prydain Chronicles, the Alanna series and other books by Tamora Pierce, the ElfQuest comics by Richard and Wendy Pini, Terry Brooks' Shannara series, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, The Blue Sword or anything else by Robin McKinley, Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time, and the Harry Potter books, to name just a few. I've also gotten interested in the Amelia Peabody books, by Elizabeth Peters, recently, my mother's latest and most successful attempt to interest me in the mystery genre. (Read them, they're excellent!) Although I've been writing since I was six, my first fantasy story was written when I was nine years old. My longest on-going project to date is The Waverunner Chronicles, my most famous project is The Dreamworld Saga, and what may be my biggest and most complex project yet (eventually) is Starchasers. I write mostly fantasy, though I have been known to occasionally dabble in sci-fi and a little realistic fiction. I'm also quite good at essays, but I don't generally do those for fun. =P Other hobbies include roleplaying online, playing video games (mostly Playstation RPGs and the Spyro series), watching anime, writing poetry, singing, playing the piano, making webpages, reading, listening to music, artwork of various media, languages (German and a little Japanese), Hawaiian dance, 3D computer graphics, making friends with international students and learning about other countries, astronomy and stargazing, travel, making midis, writing songs, etc...the list goes on and on and on! (Methinks I have too many hobbies...) Past jobs include working in a care center for the elderly, clerical work at an electric company and an insurance company, and working in the computer lab at my university. This last is my favorite job, but I won't be able to keep it once I graduate in May!
