History

The Waverunner Chronicles

The Waverunner Chronicles is the latest title of a story I've been writing for a loooooooooong time. The very first version of this story was written in 1989, when I was just ten years old! (In fact, it was originally inspired by the movie The Little Mermaid. I was nuts about that movie when it first came out and decided I really wanted to write a story with mermaids in it.) I kept writing and rewriting this new story for the next few years, finally abandoning it in favor of The Dreamworld Saga in about 1995. But now that the roleplaying storyline of Waverunners has been such a success, I very likely will revive and rewrite this story sometime soon. The RP is sort of a prequel to the planned two-novel set I had been working on, and it may eventually become its own book, making a trilogy out of the set. We'll see just what I come up with, and how much I decide to change. Anyway, everything you will read in these story summaries is subject to change, since the info is at least five years old and rather outdated. Some characters may be added or replaced. If you'd like to learn more about Waverunners, be sure to check out the page on the Waverunners roleplay.

Setting

The world of Waterlight is entirely original. You can find more information in the story section, but primarily it is an ocean kingdom, blocked by mountains to the north, cliffs to the west, desert to the south, and the ocean to the east. They are an isolated kingdom, fighting a more or less continuous battle with the hostile dwarves to the north. Merpeople live in the oceans, and the entire gulf is widely inhabited by them. To find out more about this kingdom, read on!

The Story

The story here is a rough outline of the original stories I wrote. However, when I finally get working on this again, a great deal will be changed. At the very least, it has to be fixed so it makes sense with what we've done in the roleplaying. (I'm not sure how much of that storyline I'll be using in the books, but I know I want to use at least some of it.) But read on for summaries of the original two books, as things stood when I last worked on them. (If you'd like to know more about the stories from the roleplaying, which are sort of a prequel to these two books, check out the Waverunners roleplay.)

Artwork and Goodies

Lots of goodies for this story, but they're pretty much all artwork so far. These are all maps of Waterlight at various stages in the development of the story; the 2000 one is, of course, the most correct.

Status

Status: Work in progress

This story has been on hold for the last five years, but it was once my favorite project, and it may see a revival very soon as a result of the roleplaying storyline based on it. There will be a lot of changes, and I'm not sure how long it will be when finished (if it ever is), but it could end up being as much as a complete trilogy. Watch this page to see how it is progressing!
