Jessie is Ariana's best friend from back home on Earth; they've known each other since the beginning of high school. A happy, bouncy girl with a kind of joyful youth to her that refuses to be suppressed, no matter how difficult things get. She is rather tiny and slight, with an elfin face, long, silky, auburn hair, and sky blue eyes. Jessie is eager and imaginative, a hopeless romantic who puts her whole self into whatever she happens to be doing or feeling at the moment.
Almost a year after Ariana stumbled upon Rivendell, Jessie found her way there too. It was an accident, really...Robert was so excited about having learned a spell that he absolutely had to demonstrate for Ariana. Something went wrong though, and Jessie sort of appeared out of thin air, landing on one of the inn's patrons and announcing, "Hey, this isn't in the script!" (She had been at closing night of A Midsummer Night's Dream as one of the pixies.) Robert slipped out, embarrassed at having made a mistake, but Jessie immediately launched herself at Ariana and hugged her nearly to death.
Jessie adjusts fairly well to new situations, though she does have a habit of shouting, "What's going on?!" at times. But she always makes the best of things, and others in Rivendell usually think she's just adorable. She rarely lets anything put her in a serious mood for too long, and while she's always being flirted with, she never takes it seriously. Jessie is not really knowledgeable when it comes to love, and she will never fall in love easily. But someday she will fall in love, and when she does, she will fall hard.
So far Jessie has a great many friends in Rivendell, though she doesn't usually have the problem of getting tangled up in their respective causes and missions, like Ariana does. She's always willing to help, however, and she's quite capable of it, too. Back on earth she took fencing lessons, and when she came to Rivendell, Calan made her a gift of the sword Galesong, which had belonged to his sister Suela. Jessie renamed it Dreamsong in honor of Ariana's position and of Jessie's own adventures in the Dreamworld. After some time, Jessie discovered that the bright jewel set in Dreamsong's pommel was, apparently, more than just a pretty stone. K'Tirnan, or the Gryphon's Jewel, is a magical item that actually contains the soul of a woman who died long ago. K'Tirnan speaks to Jessie sometimes, and also to others on occasion, and she allows Jessie to use her magic when it is needed, usually to help Jessie's friends.
