Magic in AlundraRPG

Most magic in this area isn't truly real, and is performed by street magicians who use sleight of hand and light tricks. Others pretend to have magic powers and sell fake amulets or made-up fortunes. Real magic does exist, however, though finding and identifying it may be somewhat tricky.

Some say that what the hunters and rangers of the northern forests do is magic. They are skilled at finding and subduing prey, or using peculiar herbs in the forest for a variety of strange uses, including healing. The strange religion of Summer's End seems, to many, to have magical or mystical elements, and the stories of creatures found in Darkwood and in the deep mountains speak of things that are not entirely of this world.

It is also said that long ago, humans were able to use magic, but they required some kind of focus in order to do it. Such focuses included scrolls and books in which spells were written and magical symbols inscribed. Others were magical wands, which were often tied to various elements. Magic is generally elemental in nature, usually divided into the basic four elements of fire, water, wind, and earth. Water is supposedly tied to healing and defense, in particular. A fifth element of spirit may also exist, though this is not confirmed.

In addition to magic aided by such long-forgotten artifacts, some say that there are fortune tellers and street artists who truly do use magic. If they do, however, their magic is of a weak variety. Priests may also be able to use magic, although most will argue that their powers come from the god they serve, and thus may not be properly called magic.

Nonhumans have also been known to use magic. Legendary demons such as incubi and succubi, if they exist, almost certainly have such powers. The fabled lost Clan of Elna, a race of elves, is said to have the power to dreamwalk, which is certainly magical in nature.
